Terms of Service

1. Acceptance

By creating an account, you agree to these terms, our Privacy Policy, and our Data Processing Agreement. If you are accepting on behalf of a company, you confirm you have authority to bind that company.

2. Who can use the service

You must be at least 18 years old and able to enter into a binding contract. You must use the service to manage your own legitimate Kickstarter campaign (or one you have explicit authority to manage). One account per legal entity.

3. Your account & security

You are responsible for everything that happens under your account. Keep your password confidential. Tell us immediately if you suspect unauthorised use. Sharing your StoryForge Pledges credentials with anyone outside your organisation breaches these terms.

4. Kickstarter authentication (optional)

We treat your Kickstarter credentials as single-use — they are used to authenticate one fetch and are not stored at rest. We are not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by Kickstarter PBC. Your use of Kickstarter remains governed by their own terms.

At any time you can revoke our access by changing your Kickstarter password. Once revoked, we cannot fetch new data from Kickstarter on your behalf, though any data already imported will remain in your StoryForge Pledges account until you delete it.

5. Data roles & backer data

For personal data about your backers, you are the controller and we are the processor. The processor terms are set out in the Data Processing Agreement, which is incorporated by reference into these terms and is accepted automatically when you sign up.

You confirm that you have a lawful basis to share backer personal data with us, including any backers who reside in the UK, EEA, or California, and that you have provided your backers with the privacy notice required by their applicable law.

6. Your content

You retain ownership of all content you upload — brand assets, campaign descriptions, reward photos, backer notes. You grant us a worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, copy, cache, and display that content solely to operate the service. The licence ends when you delete the content or close your account, subject to backups that age out within 30 days.

7. Payments & fees

• Platform fee — published on our pricing page at the time of signup. We will give you at least 60 days' notice of any pricing change.
• Payment processing — handled by Stripe under your own merchant account. Stripe's fees apply separately to you. We do not take a cut of card-processing fees.
• Tax — you are responsible for collecting, remitting and reporting any VAT, sales tax, or other tax due on your sales. We provide reporting tools but do not file returns on your behalf.
• Refunds — to your backers are issued through Stripe at your direction. Platform fees on refunded transactions are not refundable except where required by law.

8. Fulfilment is yours

StoryForge Pledges is software. We do not pick, pack, or ship anything. You remain responsible for fulfilling your rewards, communicating delays, and handling backer support. We provide tools (manifests, shipping zones, ShipStation export when available) to make that easier.

9. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• Use the service to host adult content, hate speech, or illegal goods.
• Charge backers without their consent, run pre-orders disguised as Kickstarter rewards, or mislead backers about delivery timelines or production status.
• Probe, scan, scrape, or reverse-engineer the service beyond what is reasonably required for security research that you report to us responsibly.
• Use the service to send unsolicited bulk email outside the campaigns you operate.

10. Suspension & termination

You can close your account at any time from your settings. We can suspend or close an account that breaches these terms, the law, or our acceptable-use rules. On termination we will export your data on request and delete it within 30 days (subject to the retention windows in the Privacy Policy).

11. Liability

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited — death, personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or breach of consumer rights you cannot waive.

Subject to that, our total aggregate liability to you under or in connection with these terms (whether in contract, tort, or otherwise) is capped at the greater of (a) the fees you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose, or (b) £100. We are not liable for indirect, consequential, or special losses, including lost profits, lost goodwill, lost backers, or business interruption.

12. Indemnity

You will indemnify us against any third-party claim arising from your breach of these terms or of applicable law — including but not limited to backer claims, tax-authority claims, and intellectual property claims about content you uploaded.

13. Changes to these terms

We can update these terms. Material changes will be flagged by email and by updating the "Effective" date. If you don't agree with the change, you can close your account.

14. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute, except that we can also bring proceedings in your home jurisdiction if you have breached our intellectual property rights.
